Roslyn Wakari v Green Island
...........Classic battle at Ellis with both sides gaining advantage, and the large crowd responding to the mix of skills and endeavor. The more mature Rovers side showed quality technique and patterned play - but lacked the killer touch in front of goal.
...........Terry Boylan's younger Roslyn side is still in 'build' mode, and while there were some exhilerating breaks from Tennesee and Wilkie, Gov would not be happy with his targetman finishing. In defence, big Josh was superb at centreback,. and Shay Thom was dynamic in breaking up Queenstown attacks.
Queenstown's keeper big Daniel Bocattios had a cracker of a game. Steady hands up in the air - under considerable pressure - a couple of reflex saves were reminiscent of his Futsal form, and similarly his Brazian mate Carlos Hermann showed deft touches, nice lay-offs and a couple of audacious 'backheels' wrongfooted the home defence, and set up goalscoring chances.
........... My only criticism would be the the corrugated Ellis surface... while we have two excellent artificial Turfs, plus the trad Caledonian ground. Surely this area could be a Focus for Football, with keen lower grades playing early and late and Senior games in prime times.
............ Personally, I've never found parking a problem near the Tago Turf.
My old mate Neville will probably send in his SPL reports later........ - always a good read.
Classy take by big Dan, and steadfast header by Josh..
C'est Le Compte mon collègue
Carlos second best for a change...
good jump
quail high slide by Tennessee
pretty close Wilkie...
yep - eyes on the ball
'Offside' Ref....
each team had moments of Joy...
and moments of Gloom..
Tom's a 'handy' keeper
Rovers return and happy Claps
Wilkie sharper than Dan on the ground ..
RW goal
Happy Mike
Highland Fling... but Final score still 2-2.
